In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in Oxford; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in Ohio are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.

Hours are published for 6 days a week. The most common schedule is 11:30 am–9 pm. Note that it does not open on Tuesday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. You can reach Chop Bento at (513) 255-9201; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. More information is available on its website, chopbento.com.

I really like Chop Bento. The staff were very friendly and well put together, and the restaurant has a nice atmosphere. I highly recommend both the pork katsu curry and the salmon teriyaki bento. The bento meals come with a lot of food for the price, so the value is very good. The miso soup was also especially good, with a generous amount of green onion. One thing I really liked was the self serve setup for sauces, with options including ponzu, sesame soy, chili sauce, and sriracha. They also have self serve water, including lemon water. There is a good selection of soju and other alcohol as well. Despite being right in Uptown Oxford, there weren’t many college students dining inside when I was there, and it felt like more of a local crowd. It seems like a lot of students order takeout instead, which is also available. Overall, great food, generous portions, good prices, and good staff. Definitely a place I’d come back to.

My wife and I do not eat out frequently because we can cook many good meals ourselves. When we do go, it is for simple fast convenience, or to get something that would be difficult to make, or especially delicious. We recently dropped by Chop Bento, a fairly new restaurant here in Oxford. Eugene Lee, the owner, has an eye for detail. The restaurant is nicely decorated. Restrooms are one of the first places you go in a restaurant to wash you hands. They are clean and well maintained, a sign that he wants your experience to be pleasant from start to finish. We split the Teriyaki Bento set with chicken, and also a plate of dumplings with a delicious dipping sauce. The serving size was large enough for both of us to have plenty to eat, and beautifully presented. Although there are a number of different drink options, we simply chose lemon water. As it turns out, there is a dedicated stand to provide free water or lemon water. Service was attentive and pleasant. Oxford has a number of excellent Asian restaurants, each with their own niche. Chop Bento is well worth giving a visit. It might just become one of your favorites.

I am just visiting family in the area and wanted some asian food. This little spot is cute, calm, clean and had great portions. The food was amazing ( thank you kitchen staff) and the servers were friendly and sweet. I also though the self serve area was nice. The udon was fantastic and the cheese pork katsu was some of the best ive had!

The food was very good and came out fresh and hot. The crab rangoons were my favorite part and some of the best I've had. The owner was very nice and helpful. We will be going back!
